NMRA Columbus Header

The 34th Annual NMRA Ford Expo, held over Labor Day weekend at National Trail Raceway, is always one of the most exciting stops on the NMRA Keystone Automotive Ford Nationals series tour. As the second-to-last race, with points battles almost at critical mass, NMRA racers had the wick turned up giving the track all it can take, and then some. And in addition to our usual racers, there was also vintage Blue Oval cars making their way down the track in the Y-Block Shootouts, ’57 Ford Gathering & Shootout and special vintage bracket classes. For the fans of both old and new, this was the NMRA event of the year.  Despite a very poor weather forecast, the NMRA was able to complete the event in 2 days and avoid a Sunday rainout.

NMRA All-Ford Drag Racing:

NMRA Columbus Mustang and Ranchero

The NMRA Keystone Ford Drag Racing Series is known for mild to wild blue oval drag racing…from ProCharger Super Street Outlaw and Blow-By Racing Renegade to Trick Flow Specialties Open Comp and more.  The NMRA Ford Expo featured all the cars and all the stars of NMRA along with local True Street and bracket racers wanting to participate in a national event.  TREMEC True Street is always a fan favorite with over 40 Mustangs and Fords racing for the coveted 6′ trophy!

The NMRA Ford Expo, at National Trail Raceway, has always been an extra special event for Ford enthusiasts of all ages.  This is the one NMRA event where modern Ford performance converges with vintage blue oval vehicles to showcase the whole spectrum that Henry Ford started way back in 1903.  When the nostalgia Ford ran it was like stepping into a time machine and going back to the ’50s and ’60′s, great eras is Ford history.

UPR Products All-Ford Car Show:

NMRA Columbus Car Show

The UPR Products NMRA All-Ford Car Show at the Ford Expo was business as usual with over 150 early and late-model Mustangs & Fords showing off for the fans.  Bad weather had a definite impact on the show, which usually draws upwards of 300 vintage and late-model Fords.  This show is extra special because of the addition of the Y-Block Nationals & Shootout, the ’57 Ford Gathering & Shootout and the Capri Swarm.  Early-model or late-model Mustangs and Fords…this event had it all!

Manufacturers’ Midway and Swap Meet:

Where can you go to talk to the finest Ford performance manufacturers and tuners in the U.S?  The answer is easy…any NMRA Ford Nationals event!  The 34th Annual NMRA Ford Expo showcased some of the best blue oval parts manufacturers, tuners and retailers around including:  Roush Racing, Roush Performance, Harland Sharp, Johnny Lightning Performance, 5.0 Mustang magazine, Brenspeed, Muscle Mustangs magazine, and many more.

NMRA OH Swap Meet

The used parts swap meet at the NMRA Ford Expo is always large with customers looking for anything and everything vintage for their Mustangs and Fords.  They year showcased over 50 swap meet vendors.

This post event report is being provided to all NMRA series sponsors.  We appreciate your support and recognize that it significantly contributes to the NMRA’s success as the #1 all-Ford motorsport show in the U.S.  Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions or need anything at all.

Sincerely,

Steve Wolcott

BALTIMORE, Md. (August 27, 2012) – Over the weekend, Vaughn Gittin Jr. slid into Sin City for Formula Drift Round 6 in the Monster Energy Falken Tire Ford Mustang RTR, hoping for a third consecutive podium finish. By the end of the night after many intense battles, Vaughn not only finished 3rd overall, but also gained some crucial points, surging him farther ahead in overall Formula Drift standings. Check out this VIDEO from Ford Racing recapping Vaughn’s 3rd place finish in Las Vegas.  Vaugh Gittin tears it up!

Along with the challenge of the desert heat, a new track configuration was added to the event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway giving an extra challenge for the drivers to adjust to the new course. But Vaughn quickly adapted during practice and was able keep his high-qualifying streak alive by placing 5th out of over 40 drivers.

On Saturday Vaughn defeated Dave Briggs during the top 32 rounds to make his way to the Sweet Sixteen main event. After a short half-time break and spending some time chatting with fans, taking pictures, and signing autographs, Vaughn was ready to rock in the main event that kicked off with an amazing opening ceremony of colorful fireworks lighting up the Las Vegas sky.

Vaughn’s Ford Mustang proved victorious after battling Luke Lonberger in a Chevrolet Corvette in the top 16, and then Conrad Grunewald in a Chevrolet Camaro in the top 8, solidifying the dominant American muscle car for the night. Vaughn would move into the final four to find himself faced with the event’s 1st place qualifier, Fredric Aasbo.

Both Vaughn and Fredric held nothing back in their runs as they fought to get an automatic place atop the coveted podium. They judges deemed the battle too close to call and issued a “One More Time” battle.

After one more extremely intense and close battle between the two drivers, Aasbo was declared the winner, and Vaughn would go on to defeat Robbie Nishida in the consolation round, taking 3rd place overall at Round Six.

“I sure do like that top step of the podium better than this shorter one, but I am pumped to be up here regardless,” says Vaughn Gittin Jr. “We were pretty flawless as a team for the third event in a row. We extended our overall points lead and I am really excited going into Irwindale and my incredible team and I will be doing everything possible to earn that top step and bring home another Championship! Thanks to all of my supporters; you all are amazing!”

With his 3rd place finish, Vaughn remains in 1st place overall with only one round left to go in the 2012 Formula Drift Championship. The final round at Irwindale Speedway, otherwise known as the “House of Drift” takes place October 13th and you can bet it will be an exciting one!
